The Gynaecology and Breast Admin Team who are based at Princess Anne Hospital have won the Southampton Hospital Charity (SHC) best decorated ward competition which is held every year and helps to bring some Christmas cheer to patients, visitors and staff. The entire team worked tirelessly to create a Santa’s workshop with life size snow men, a cosy fireplace, and an igloo office.
Second place went to Bursledon House whose decorations were made and installed by some very talented young patients and third place went to Respiratory High Dependency Unit who recycled vial caps to make festive works of art.
Thirty five wards and departments entered the competition which was judged by members of the SHC team and Chief Executive, Paula Head who said
It has been a real pleasure judging the competition and the standard was really high across the Trust.
It is incredible to see the effort our staff have gone to in ensuring that UHS is a little better for patients who are in hospital over the festive season.
The stories I heard about teams coming together in and out of hours – with help from their families in some cases – has been heart-warming and reminded me what a great family we are ourselves in UHS. Teams came together to create something marvellous for patients and with a little bit of healthy competition! Thank you all for taking part and I’m already looking forward to next year’s competition.”
Highly commended wards include:
- Children’s Outpatients
- Patient Service Centre
- Ophthalmology Department
We would like to thank everyone who took part in the competition – it is very much appreciated by all.
