Damianís Hats That Help
Husband and wife team Damian Brasher and Marisa McClelland conceived the idea of making ‘Hats that Help’ with the aim of raising money to support C3 ward at Southampton General Hospital, and donating the money to Southampton Hospital Charity. Damian received treatment on C3 ward and Marisa started to crochet to pass the time whilst they were there.
Sadly Damian passed away in May 2015 from cancer, however he was keen for Hats that Help to keep fundraising this way to support C3 ward and help current and future cancer patients.
Marisa comments: “It’s a harsh fact that most of us have had cancer touch our lives in one form or another. Many people knit or crochet to pass the time during treatment, and patients undergoing chemo can lose their hair, which is where we came up with the idea to make hats that help - the obvious choice!
“Last year, we took numerous orders from The Ealing Eagles, a running club, who wanted matching hats in their club colours, and loved the added bonus of benefiting a local charity.”
So far we have raised £1,100 for the C3 chemotherapy unit, and hope to continue raising money in memory of Damian. We have also donated some of our hats to the unit to be given to patients currently undergoing cancer treatment.
Damian's Hats that Help are getting back into the swing for this season and will be selling stock hats, as well as bespoke hats.”
