Helistrat Thunder Run Raises a Thousand Pounds
Last month Helistrat took part in the Adidas 24 hour Thunder Run, taking thousands of strides to raise a thousand pounds for Piam Brown Ward, the regional Paediatric Cancer Unit at Southampton General Hospital.
Helistrat’s seven man, and woman, strong team completed the 24 hour endurance race running 230km over the 24 hour period without stopping! Team Captain Adrian Williamson said: “It was an amazing event but very tough, especially during the dark hours. Despite us all feeling a bit sore the next day, we were proud of what we achieved and the support our colleagues gave us really helped us to stay positive”.
To support their team and help boost the fundraising, employees at the company’s Lakeside Head Office dressed in sports related fancy dress, baked cakes, entered competitions and organised a raffle. Bernard Amos, CEO and Joy Donnell, MD had a difficult decision on their hands when it came to choosing who would win best dressed competition. In the end glory went to the Sumo Wrestler, who was entertaining to watch waddling up and down the office and occasionally deflating and re-inflating. A close second was John McEnroe who, as you would expect, made a scene when losing, throwing his racket on the floor and shouting “you cannot be serious”.
Rachel Funnell, Charity Co-ordinator at Piam Brown Ward commented: “It is amazing to see businesses like Helistrat committed to supporting local causes like ours. Every penny raised for Piam Brown Ward really does make a difference to the families currently in our care. The charity fund provides toys, games and craft equipment for our young patients and their siblings; all the facilities for parents to manage living in the hospital for prolonged periods; trips and outings for the family as a whole to generate a smile or create a happy memory as well as supporting research and training. All the staff are so grateful for the efforts of Helistrat in generating this generous donation. Thank you all so much!”
Helistrat also received fantastic support from suppliers and local businesses. A number of donations were made via the company’s Just Giving Page along with raffle prizes. All of which were appreciated.
