Ball raises £1,895 in memory of cancer patient
Sadly nursery worker Leanne McDowell, 36, lost her battle with cancer, but her friends and family have rallied around to support the hospital where she received her treatment.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK.
Friend, Becky Simmons from Southampton worked with Leanne at Sunrise Nursery. She comments: “It was a really hard time for Leanne’s family and for her work colleagues to see her going through the cancer until unfortunately the end.
The treatment she received at Southampton was second to none, and we are all very grateful for all that they did for her.”
Southampton General Hospital is one of 12 regional centres treating patients with different forms of cancer. In the UK, around 50,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year, and unfortunately around 12,000 women die of the disease each year.
Becky continues: “Leanne wanted to put on a ball for the ward, but unfortunately she lost her battle last year with cancer and passed away in July 2014.
All of her friends, family and work colleagues put on a valentines ball in 2015 to celebrate her life and raise money for the C3 Hamwic ward in Southampton where she was treated.
We were thrilled to raise £1,895 for Southampton Hospital Charity, Leanne’s parents are planning further events.
