Southampton haematology day unit one year onů
Where has the time gone? We cannot believe that it has already been a year since the Southampton haematology day unit was completed, and took its first patients.
The Red & White Appeal was launched in 2008 by Southampton Hospital Charity. This appeal aimed to raise £1.76million to create a specialist day treatment unit for patients with leukaemia and other life-threatening blood disorders from across Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Wiltshire, Dorset, West Sussex and the Channel Islands.
Did you know…?
One in 25 of us will develop leukaemia, myeloma or lymphoma in our lifetime.
Victoria Greenshields, fundraising manager, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the support that everybody gave the appeal. The fact that the unit has been open for a year already is a fantastic achievement and you helped us make the dedicated day unit a reality.”
“The unit has really helped to improve patient experience and bring the trust to the forefront of haematology research. It has over 30 clinical trials currently taking place to improve haematology treatments.
This unit would never have been possible without the support of our kind donors and staff members who got behind the appeal, so THANK YOU!”
